Paper recycling

There a many reasons why we should all consider paper recycling.  Here are just a few examples.

Did you know?

Producing recycled paper involves between 28 - 70% less energy consumption than virgin paper and uses less water (Source: Waste Watch).  For every tonne of paper recycled 17 trees are spared; 7,000 gallons of water are saved and 4,200 KWh less electricity is used (Source: Waste Watch). These statistics alone prove that recycling is vital if we are to preserve the Earth's natural resources.

The ex-Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone was keen to highlight the issue of waste management having published The Mayor's Municipal Waste Management Strategy, Rethinking Rubbish in London, (23 September 2003).  He also launched the Recycle for London campaign. The aim of these initiatives was to draw attention to the need for more recycling.  The capital's reliance on landfill is no longer acceptable: only 8% of London's municipal waste is recycled.

London's new Mayor of London, Boris Johnson is also keen to carry on the initiative.  He announced back in May 2008 that he is to chair the London Waste and Recycling Board which will help London's borough councils to promote recycling and reduce landfills.  With a proposed budget of £60 million, the Board will promote the management of waste whilst minimising its effect upon the environment.  The Mayor is committed to the debate:

“Londoners want to be greener and recycle more, but they need to be offered more hassle-free ways to do so. Together with London's boroughs, I want to deliver new and innovative solutions to overcome present challenges."

Recycling at source by separating material is the most cost-effective method of paper collection. At Lombard Recycling, we can provide the lockable bins and containers to help you efficiently manage the recycling process within your office environment.
